Like a lot of good ideas, Drivvy started with a problem — though not the one we expected to solve.
In 2025, Mark and Max got their learner's permits. If you're a parent, you know the exact moment we mean. One day, you're handing them a juice box in the back seat, and the next, they're behind the wheel, easing onto the road while you sit in the passenger seat doing your very best impression of a calm adult. Meanwhile, your right foot is pressing an imaginary brake pedal through the floor mat, and you've developed a sudden, intense relationship with the grab handle above the door. Every parent who's been through it feels this in their bones. It is terrifying — and it's also one of the proudest, most important things you'll ever do together.
From a paper log to a better idea
So we started practicing. And then came the paper log.
These are teenagers who have an app for everything, yet here they were logging driving hours on a folded sheet of paper. It felt stuck in the wrong decade. So we went looking for a better way — and one by one, the supervised-driving apps we tried let us down: data that didn't log reliably, interfaces no teen would ever willingly open, and no real way to keep parents and teens engaged in the process together.
Hours weren't the whole story
But the deeper we got, the more we realized logging hours wasn't enough. It told us how much Mark and Max had driven. It told us nothing about one question every parent is especially concerned about: Is my teen ready to drive independently? The feedback we gave was genuine, but it was reactive and occasional. We had no structured way to track the development of the skills vital for independent driving beyond logged hours.
When we talked to other parents in the same season of life, we heard it again and again. They didn't just want to count hours. They wanted to be part of the process, with a real tool to help them guide and evaluate their teen along the way.
The Drive Readiness Score™ was born
That became the heart of Drivvy — and it's where the Drive Readiness Score™ was born: a way to turn a parent's everyday observations into a clear picture of real driving development, built around the specific skills decades of crash research link to safe driving. Instead of guessing, you can watch each one improve, drive by drive.
Today, Drivvy does exactly what we wished it had done from day one. It logs every session, tracks your required hours toward licensing, and turns each drive into a Drive Readiness Score™ you can watch climb over time — so progress is something you can finally see, not just feel.
Built by a family, for families
Drivvy was built by a family — a dad and his two sons — who lived this process from both the passenger seat and the driver's seat. Once we saw how many families were navigating the same fear, knowing that teen driving is one of the riskiest things our kids will ever do, Drivvy became our way to respond to this. Every family deserves better tools to get through the supervised driving period safely. If you're starting that journey now, it was made for you. Let's get the next generation on the road safely — one drive at a time.
